Joseph Warungu

Joseph Warungu is the Managing Editor for broadcasting at one of Kenya’s top media houses, Nation Media Group. He has over 30 years of journalism and media management experience, twenty of which were spent at the BBC. There he served as the head of the BBC African News and Current Affairs department, responsible for the BBC’s English flagship programs for Africa.
He had previously served at KBC and KTN, and now runs a national mentorship program for young journalists in Kenya in the form of a popular journalism TV reality show, Top Story which is broadcast on NTV every Monday at 7.30pm (Top Story is an initiative he founded where journalism students from universities are taken through a mentorship program as they compete in the production of stories).
He is also the Managing Director of AfricaonAir; a Nairobi-based organisation that supports African media to improve professional standards through practical capacity building and the production of quality content on issues that really matter to people. In addition, Joseph Warungu holds a Masters Degree in Media Management from Leeds University, and is a former Knight International Journalism Fellow.
He is passionate about Africa, media, culture and development.
